Unlike most casino games, poker does not require a croupier to deal the cards. Instead, a house dealer does the actual dealing. He or she may shuffle the cards or have other players do so.

Poker can be played with any number of players, but the ideal is generally a minimum of six to eight. Some versions of the game, such as no-limit poker, allow a player to wager the entirety of their stack.

As for the cards themselves, a standard 52-card deck is used, and each card is ranked from Ace to ten. There are also several versions of the game that add wild cards, such as a spade and diamond. The best hand is a straight flush.

Another is the bluff – a bluff is a bet a player makes to try to fool other players into making a bet. To make a bluff, a player must make a bet that is not only a novelty in its own right, but also a novelty in the eyes of other players. For example, in a no-limit game, the bluff might be to raise the previous bet by the full amount. Alternatively, a bluff might be to bet the same amount but only on the same hand.
