Prisonworld Radio Hour has come full circle twice with two years of broadcasting under its belt as it recognizes the second year anniversary with women who have overcome life obstacles. This time two years ago, an idea was being tossed around by Dawah International, LLC, about expanding the multimedia umbrella and thus the Prisonworld Radio Hour was born. The unique radio program, which is targeted to all who want to listen, features acapella entertainment, prison news, trivia, letters from inmates out of the Prisonworld mailbag, celebrity and non-celebrity interviews, and the highly praised chemistry of co-hosts Rufus and Jenny Triplett, co-editors-in-chief of Prisonworld Magazine.
Dawah International, LLC broadcasts the Prisonworld Radio Hour via internet and is very pleased with the buzz the show has created and sustained for the past two years. The show is syndicated in distribution through Rss feeds, iTunes and dozens of affiliates across the country. Jenny Triplett, co-host and co-producer says “We are always amazed at the doors that we continue to open. Several people have started shows because of us and use our show as a model to grow their audience. I am always checking our stats and to see that we have listeners from Australia, Russia, China, Great Britain, Germany, and practically all over the world it almost brings tears to my eyes. I guess when you are doing something positive, entertaining and unique; people will find you and stay loyal to your mission”
In celebration of the two year achievement, the radio program will spend the entire month of March interviewing and showcasing women who have been incarcerated and are now out of prison doing wonderful things. With the rate of incarceration at its highest point ever in the history of the United States and the rate of recidivism right behind it, being able to come back into society and beat the odds is an achievement within itself. “There are plenty who use the system as a revolving door. If they cannot find a job and with nothing but time on their hands, they usually find their way back into the system. We want to talk to the people who made it over the hump and let our listeners know how they did it. Sadly, they are the exceptions to the rule but maybe their stories can help and inspire someone else. There is life after prison,” says Rufus Triplett, Jr., co-editor-in-chief.
